Kill
Spam At Source
Spam
is a pain in the butt. As we have several websites and make no
attempt to hide our email addresses we're targetted on a regular
basis. We get upwards of 500 emails a day, most of which are unwanted.
As
well as being unwelcome, these spamming emails are a potential
source of threat to our computer's security. A percentage will
be carrying viruses and/or spyware. Because of the low technical
skills needed by spammers their computers, through ignorance,
are more likely to be riddled with nasties to pass on through
emails.
And
the advice not to open email attachments without first checking
with anti-virus ignores the fact that viruses and other nasties
can now be present in the email itself, particularly if in 'Rich
Text', although 'Plain Text' is still safe (at present).
The
solution part 1.............
Keep
spam off your computer. (opens new window)
How would you like to see your emails on your ISP's server and
delete those you don't want before they ever get to your machine
? Find
out how here.
The
solution part 2.............
Sterilize
emails you allow on to your computer. (Opens new
window)
This small program processes your emails 'on the fly' as they
arrive on your computer to ensure that they don't carry any dodgy
code. Check it out
here
Even
personal mail from friends can pick up 'nasties'. Don't risk it.
These
programs are first-class. We've used them for years and couldn't
manage without them.
