Build for pleasure

Many people build websites and never publish them on the web. Nothing wrong in that; many people paint pictures or write books just for their own amusement.

Having built your website you could copy it on to a memory stick and pass it to friends to admire (or criticise). Websites can even be emailed as attachments if not too large.

Make a profit

If you're going to publish your website on the web you may as well "monetize" it. by running advertisements for Google, Amazon, eBay etc. But don't think that you can build a website and make a fortune overnight.

Running a website as a business is no different from running any other business and needs the same attention. Not many succeed.

Don't be fooled

Don't be fooled by people who try to tell you otherwise and offer to sell you "secrets" that will make you filthy rich overnight. If you want to learn about marketing I'll be dealing with this shortly with free reports.

At the end of the day, you need a website that is good to look at and explore but it will not, of itself, make you money. Your website is simply your shop window and the hardest job is getting plenty of people to visit.
